Fun on Saint Patrick’s Day
Syracuse Residents Invite You to Join in All the Fun on Saint Patrick’s Day!
Whether you’re in town for a visit or a local looking to celebrate with thousands of your neighbors, there are plenty of options for fun on St. Patrick’s Day in Syracuse. You’ll quickly come to discover that St. Patrick’s Day in Syracuse is more than just a fun-filled party with beer, music, and great food. Sure – many of the area’s establishments will be going green in honor of the holiday, but there are also a variety of activities leading up to the annual parade that can help get you in the Irish spirit. A few highlights are:
- The Rose of Syracuse Competition – Want to be a part of the annual parade itself? If you are “a young lady between the ages of 18-23, who is interested in celebrating her heritage”, than the luck of the Irish may be upon you! If you feel great pride for not only your Irish “homeland” but Syracuse roots, apply to become a Rose for a chance to represent your city in all of the parade festivities.
- The 14th Annual Tipperary Hill Shamrock Run – The weekend before the holiday celebrations start in earnest, this 4-mile run, set to take place on Saturday, March 9th at 11AM (a “Fun Run” for children starts at 10:00AM) adds a charitable aspect into the revelry. In recognition of the “An Gorta Mor” or the Great Hunger in Ireland that led so many to leave for the United States, the organizers ask that runners bring a non-perishable food donation to support the local community’s hunger bank.
